Funeral services for Mr. Elton M. Thompson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in the Rush Chapel, Oakdale, with Reverend Donnie Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Cemetery, Elizabeth under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Mr. Elton M. “Pop” Thompson, of Elizabeth, Louisiana, age 78 passed away on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 in Carriere, Mississippi. He had resided at New Country Living Personal Care Home for the past 4 years. He was born to parents Isreo “Sheep” Thompson and Amie Perkins Thompson of Pitkin. Elton lived his adult life in Elizabeth with his wife of 45 years, Helen Ray Prewitt Thompson.
Elton loved gardening, hunting, fishing and working. He worked 40 plus years at Calcasieu Paper Mill and in the Forestry Division of Boise Cascade. He loved people and never met a stranger. He loved his family and taught his children many wonderful qualities by example.
Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Prewitt Thompson (deceased 2000); his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isreo “Sheep” Thompson and two grandsons, Joshua Timothy Thompson and Casey Aaron Guillot.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his four children, Ray Thompson (wife Alex), Debbie Thompson Miller (husband Donnie), Vickie Thompson Mahana (husband Chris) and John Timothy Thompson. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Ryan Sharpe (wife Sarah), Stacy Guillot Redman (husband Mike), Traci Sharpe Keffer (husband Matt), Joshua Thompson (wife Katy) and Jada Thompson and eight great grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters Sue Stephens and Cathryn Jordan and their families and two sisters-in-law, Etta Prewitt and Gayla Thurman and their families.
We would like to express our deep appreciation to New Country Living Personal Care Home of Carriere, Mississippi and the wonderful staff there. They have loved and cared for our Daddy over the last 4 years and we were able to find peace in having found them. We know without any reservations that he was happy in his final days upon this earth. We also find peace in knowing that our Daddy and our Mother are reunited again and what great joy and happiness they are experiencing. We thank all for your prayers and concern over the years.
